We love the Jamor Valley close to Lisbon with its excellent facilities and group friendly accomomdation. The Lisbon area offers excellent competition for both school and club tours and the warm weather pretty much all year round makes it very attractive.
Lisbon
Lisbon itself will delight you with its narrow lanes, steep streets and famous tram which you can hop aboard for a cheap and authentic tour of the city with some fabulous views. Don’t miss the beautiful Belem Tower and Barrio Alto.
Our favourite excursion from Lisbon for a free day is to tai the tram up to Cascais, spend some time exploring the cobbled streets and then spend a couple of hours on the beach there.
Another option is to take the tram in the opposite direction to Belem where you can visit the famous Belem tower and the Jeronimos Monastery. In a local cafe you can sample the local speciality of custard tarts with your coffee.
Porto
Futher north but still on the coast is the smaller city of Porto which has fantastic hockey training facilities. The hockey training facility here is one of the newest and best in Portugal and has hosted many European games. Also in the North of Portugal are several smaller locations suitable for rugby or football training camps and shorter tours.
Porto, situated on the Douro River and home to the famous after dinner drink, lacks much of the charm of Lisbon but the excellent availability of budget flights from Gatwick make it an attractive destination for sports tours nevertheless.
Don’t miss the Ribeira area and a visit to a Port Wine Cellar.
The Algarve
The Algarve has some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe stretching from the West Coast all the way to the border with Spain. The Western side has high cliffs in beautiful orange and red shades whereas the Eastern side is flatter. The climate is mild just about all year round and is an excellent destination for rugby and football tours as well as what it is most famous for – golf!
There are some excellent training centres, some of which are located in beautiful golf resorts such as Val do Lobo or Quinta da Lago. Our Director served beer to Paul Gascoigne here many years ago so the England football team have been training here for a long time!
Don’t miss the beautiful beaches of the Western coast, Silves and mountain towns such as Loule.
